What Is MRSA?

What Is MRSA?
By Gregory R. Celestine

MRSA stands for methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. Depending on where this bacteria is contracted, the hospital or in the community, the designation is hospital-acquired MRSA or community acquired MRSA (CA-MRSA), or epidemic MRSA (EMRSA). Skin infections, boils and abscesses are just a few of the results of this infection.

The aureus bacteria have been around form before the existence of the human race. MRSA on the other hand for a shorter time. I am sure you have heard time and time again that the use of antibiotics on infections and diseases though they probably cure them makes them stronger. Well, that is very true in his instance. Understand that bacteria have one purpose, to live and multiply. If one of its most fertile habitats, the human body constantly turns it out what do you think happens? It changes itself. It adapts or it overcomes.

In the case of MRSA it had evolved and made itself resistant to several different antibiotics. The term Super bugs not far fetched. So if it is resistant to antibiotics what can we use? I recently found out that the answer to that was far easier than I first thought.

What are the signs and symptoms of MRSA infection?

Cellulitis - infection of the fat and tissues immediately beneath the skin, starting as small red bumps in the skin.

Boils - hair follicles become infected and are filled with pus.

Abscesses - painful bumps filled with pus under the skin.

Sty - the eyelid gland swells and oozes brown liquid.

Carbuncles - this is basically an oversized abscess with multiple openings on the skin infections larger than an abscess, usually with several openings to the skin, and

Impetigo - blisters filled with pus on the skin
